Jets QB Sanchez gets ready for first playoff

Deciding to put on NFL jersey as a pro football player instead of staying in school, the New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez knew that he made the correct decision, and he proved that by leading the Jets to the postseason in his rookie season.

As a rookie, Sanchez has the least experience of any quarterback in the playoffs and the worst overall numbers by far. His quarterback rating of 63.0 is more than 20 points less than the next closest, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer’s 83.6. But he, his teammates and Coach Rex Ryan still have the confidence that he will make it. There are a few examples to follow, like Joe Flacco, who lead the Baltimore Ravens to the AFC championship game as a rookie, Matt Ryan who led the Atlanta team to the playoffs in his first season and Ben Roethlisberger who had very pedestrian numbers five seasons ago when he led Pittsburgh Steelers to a Super Bowl title in his second season.

Having a great grasp of the playbook and having been preparing for moments like this since he was a ball boy for his brother Brandon and Palmer at Santa Margarita High School, Sanchez believes he will make good use of the opportunity.
