Eight-year veteran Witherspoon was traded from Rams to Eagles

At the cost of rookie wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth-round pick in 2010, the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired eight-year veteran linebacker Will Witherspoon from the St. Louis Rams on Tuesday.

For the Eagles, Witherspoon seemed worth what they gave to the Rams. The linebacker spent his first four seasons with the Carolina Panthers and had been a starter in the Rams jersey at the weakside spot this season with 36 tackles and one forced fumble. He also has recorded more than 100 tackles three times in his career and has missed only two games to injury.

As for the Rams, Gibson, a sixth-round pick, was not a good exchange for Witherspoon as the rookie has been inactive for all six games with Philadelphia. Hopefully the fifth-round pick in 2010 will bring the Rams some good choice to boost their 32end-ranking team.
